30/06/2022  •  Holidays Not Too Far From Home

Holidays Not Too Far From Home

This 2022 summer season, the new trend for this year's holiday season is to book one not too far from home.

Petrol, diesel and electric prices are so high, who needs to go hundreds of miles to reach your staycation location?

Fuel costs form a significant part of your holiday budget, so why not holiday closer to home and spend money on your holiday experience instead.

Holidays Nearer to Home

Campers, caravanners and glampers all love a change of scene during summer break season.

However you don't need to go miles and miles away to get enjoy the staycation 'vibe'.

Within just 90-minutes from Grouse Hill, if you live in Teeside, East Yorkshire or on the edge of West Yorkshire, then you're not too far away.

Benefits of Holiday Destinations Nearer to Home

As well as the obvious 'pluses' such as lower fuel costs, chances are you have a shorter, less stressful car journey.

And as Grouse Hill is just a couple of miles from the nearest beach, then once you're here, the coast is within walking distance.

Rather than money being spent on exorbitant petrol prices (or on unreliable flight tickets!), you can be here and relax straight away.

By saving on fuel, you could also afford to stay a little bit longer here at Grouse Hill!

Better for the Family

If you've got kids then the shorter journey means the kids tend to be happier and don't forget, we've got a football field and a play area onsite so they can burn off their excess energy.

Likewise if you have grandparents joining in the fun, its less time in the car and more time getting into the holiday mood.

The Local Economy

As the econony tries to keep itself on a even keel, keeping within your region helps the local economy too.

Near to Grouse Hill, there are numerous indoor and outdoor attractions, fishing villages, beaches, forests and moors.

Must visit locations include Robin Hood's Bay, Boggle Hole, Hayburn Wyke, Staithes, Sandsend, Pickering and other locations.

Once you've got here, book at table at The Flask, our local pub which is just a ten minute walk from our site.

And we are very lucky to have a bus route that takes customers to Whitby, Scarborough and other destinations, with bus stops just outside The Flask going in either direction. Great news if you have a valid bus pass!

Get to Know the Local Area

If you live within an hour or so of Grouse Hill, chances are you don't have time to explore some the best things on your doorstep.

A holiday nearer to home is a great way to discover new things that you've always intended to visit.

07/09/2021  •  Group Bookings Update

Following a challenging season in terms of group stays, we've recently announced on Facebook and via updated Terms and Conditions that we no longer accept group bookings here at Grouse Hill.

This decision was not an easy one, however we would like to thank all our customers who've given us the most amazing support following our announcement.

We understand the no group booking policy will affect those of you who've been regulars and have been able to stick to our simple terms and conditions.

As with all such situations, the minority spoil it for the majority.

We do feel this decision is the right for Grouse Hill.

We are a site that wants to offer peaceful surroundings for guests and given the curfew for noise is 10.30pm (which is later that some camping sites) we have found that some group bookings flouted this request on numerous occasions.

So for the benefit of everyone and so our future guests can make the most of the stunning scenery, Grouse Hill is no longer a group booking location.

Thank you to everyone for their patience and understanding.

The inpsector said:

"Great to be able to visit this superb example of a touring and camping park ... Arrival here is most pleasant; the long drive, now completely resurfaced, clear signage and secure barrier all give excellent first impressions. This continued on the park itself where again some resurfacing noted, the main reception and shop buidlings are very well maintained and presented and all grassed areas, hedging and planted areas are in superb order. Woodland play areas and camping pods also impressed. Terraced pitches here give superb views over the surrounding moorland ... Amenities blocks are very well presented, all touring sets very clean, superbly maintained and accessible. A high ratio of private, family rooms also noteworthy."

Wonderful Whitby!

Whitby is one of the best-known seaside locations in the UK and Grouse Hill Camping and Glamping is just eight miles from this fabulous town.

The town has connections to Captain Cook, Dracula, the jet industry and lots more besides, as well as being famous for its kippers!

Whitby is divided by the River Esk, one of Yorkshire's greatest rivers. The two sides of the town are divided into East Cliff (on which stands Whitby Abbey) and West Cliff (which includes the famous Whalebone Arch and Captain Cook Monument).

The incredible harbour, which includes two impressive piers, is bustling with fishing boats and pleasure launches, perfect if you want to sample life on the ocean wave.

Whitby is a hub of activity throughout the year, with famous events such as the Whitby Goth Weekend, Whitby Regatta and Whitby Folk Week all attracting the crowds.

With such a long history, the town includes Pannett Park Museum complete with beautiful gardens and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, in which the famous maritime explorer cut his nautical teeth when he was a young lad.

Whitby is also a great favourite for food fans and those who like a bit of shopping, with a plethora of fabulous places to eat and eclectic shops to browse around.

And we must not forget the golden beaches at Whitby and the colourful beach chalets! Cliff top walks are also a favourite with visitors.

Many folks have made their fortunes in the town, and there is many a traditional trade still thriving in Whitby's cobbled streets. There are several jet jewellery makers, a kipper house, and a busy fishing fleet that supplies some local eateries with fresh seafood.

There is also Whitby Pavilion which hosts a number of live performances, films and coffee dances throughout the year.

Here at Grouse Hill, we are just a short drive from the main Scarborough to Whitby road, and if you prefer to travel by bus, then the nearest bus stop is just a short walk from Grouse Hill's entrance, and can be found just outside the Flask Inn.
